Margaret Hodge plays the race card.

Writing in the observer on sunday, Hodge said that housing should always be prioritised to British people. Apart from the fact that most immigrants/ asylum seekers are rarely housed by local authorities, it seems Hodge has been getting her facts from somewhere. Perhaps the bnp website has given her'facts' about the housing shortage in her constituency.

It really reveals a lot about new labour when a cabinet minister tries to outflank fascists by repeating what they are saying. It is quite another thing when the cabinet minister in question is descended from Jewish immigrants.
Nothing that new labour does really surprises me. I'm also heartened by the fact that there has been an outcry from fellow MPs and most importantly from Jon Cruddas, contender for the deputy leadership of the labour party.

Hodge should be ashamed of herself for parroting myths and lies about housing and stigatising immigrants as the cause of these problems. Surely as a Jewish person, she should know better.

The 'Maddy McCann' story never seems to die.
For the past 13 days, we have been subjected to endless commnetary, reports from Portugal on the disappearance of the little girl. Yesterday, the whole episode turned ugly. Some idiots at the palace of Westminster decided to wear yellow ribbons to publicise their' empathy' or 'togetherness' with the McCann family.
The England cricket team taking on the west Indies also lost their fucking marbles and decided top wear yellow ribbons.

I hope they find the child safely and return her to her family. However, this doesn't mean a repeat of the hysterical irrational behaviour witnessed during Diana's death in 1997. Yellow ribbons, millions of pounds for info leading to the child's return, a 'Maddy' fund, special mass at churches etc.
These are some of the signs of weird and baffling behaviour among the British in recent days.

What happened to the stiff upper lip? I'm starting to think it was a colonial myth. Why should the BBC spend half its programme broadcasting from Portugal on this story?
Why not broadcast from eastern Congo? Millions have died there.
What about the Thai/Burma border? Millions are fleeing the evil military junta, yet their story remains unheard in the western world.

What makes Madeleine McCann so special that the nation has taken leave of its senses and are fixated upon the entire ugly events in Portugal?
Millions of kids disappear every year, the media and public don't behave in the manner that they are behaving in now.
This is the last post on this subject, i'm fed up with the events inPortugal.
I hope they find the kid and people come back to their sense soon. For the sake of the nation.

Madeleine McCann and the media vultures feeding frenzy.

Am i the only one baffled by the excessive, OTT coverage about the tragic abduction of a 4 year old girl in Portugal? Why have the news networks devoted hours of inane coverage to the story while other important stories are left out?
Could it be that the girl is blonde, white, middle class?
I hate to say it but, the coverage has gone beyond what is rational.
The media has lost the plot again. The British tabloids and the news networks have now set up camp in Praia de Luz( Had never heard of it until 10 days ago) and subject us to tedious 'updates' often with no new leads on the abduction of the child.

If only the media wouldn't forget the tragedy that is: Darfur; Chad; Congo; Burma; Palestine etc. Why does the tragic abduction of a British child in Portugal warrant acres of coverage than children being killed by the most vicious regimes on earth in the aforementioned countries?
The news of the world has offered a reward of £1.5m for information leading to the safe return of the child. I would suggest to the NOTW that the money would save thousands of Madeleines in refugee camps in Chad, in eastern Congo, the Burma/Thai border, or helping refugees fleeing the sectarian cleansing in Iraq.
Why does the media always do this? Is it because she is the perfect victim?
